Japan Supports Health and Vocational Training in Kampala
Two projects funded by Japan have today been handed over to the beneficiaries. One project was for improving palliative care services for people living with HIV/AIDS and cancer while the other project was for construction of girls’ dormitory.
Hospice Africa Uganda received medical equipment and furniture worth over Ush 86 million for furnishing the new clinical building and for supporting the patients during the outreaches to their homes. Mr. Nakano Yukihisa, who represented the Ambassador of Japan in Uganda, commented that management of pain could be easier if there were people to support the patient. The project will enhance palliative care for patients living with HIV/AIDS and cancer throughout the country.
Another Ush 87 million project was for the construction of the ground floor for the girls’ dormitory block at St. Elizabeth Girls’ Home for vocational training. “It is very important to support the young generation because the nation needs their participation in the development process,” commented Mr. Nakano. He said that projects such as these were geared empowering the young people to be self reliant. This project will support at least 100 disadvantaged girls who pass through the training home each year.
